Metal gods Iron Maiden hit Philly
For the first time in their 25+ year career Iron Maiden felt so strong about their new album "A Matter of Life and Death" that they are playing all 10 tracks as they appear on the album!
I was initially skeptical of this idea, having only a few weeks from the album release date to the concert date to become familiar with the tracks, but I came to find the setlist actually enhanced my enjoyment of the ENTIRE album, raising my appreciation of a track or two that would have normally been overlooked.
I had good seats (3 rows back from the pit), if not a little to far to the left of stage, but nice and close to see Bruce, Dave, Adrian and Steve up close when they did their walk around stage!

Maiden v Sharon, sorry - my money's on Maiden
So someone is upset at Iron Maiden for being so popular during this years Ozzfest eh? What looks like an attempt to turn the crowd against Maiden during their final show in San Bernardino has resulted in an outcry against Sharon Ozzbourne and Ozzfest in general. Reports are that attempts to undermine the band while on the stage included having a pre-arranged group of people throw items at the band, cutting power to their sound equipment throughout their set, having someone come ON STAGE with a US flag during the 'trooper' (a song traditionally know for having Bruce Dickinson run around with the union jack) and finally someone shouting 'Ozzy, Ozzy' over the PA. This insult was met with 'Maiden Maiden' responses from what became a rather irritated crowd. The last insult was Sharon coming on stage after Maiden retired (they continued to play a full set + extra time!), not to apologize to the crowd and the band but to insult the lead singer... she was promptly booed off stage. It's a shame to see poor ozzy's hard work go down the drain like this. I, along with what looks like 1000's, if not 10s of 1000's of metal followers, have turned our backs on Ozzfest. Flight 666 - Iron Maiden!!!!
Just got confirmation, I'm off to Reykjavik, Iceland in June on flight 666 with Iron Maiden. And "with" means just that, the charted flight will be piloted by none other than the band's lead singer Bruce Dickinson and hosted by the crazy drummer Nicko. Bruce is a licensed commercial airline pilot and will be flying a Boeing 757 with 192 fans onboard. Up the Irons!Posted by 42 [Metal] ( May 24, 2005 03:39 PM ) Permalink | Comments[2]
