Argentina is well know because of  Tango (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_Tango),  Futbol or football as you like (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football) and Maradona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maradona), food (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuisine_of_Argentina), maybe Mate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mate_%28beverage%29), but the campus ambassadors here are getting very popular these days!!!

Last week we were in 5 different events, in 3 different cities, introducing the new OpenSolaris. More than 600 people discussed with us about the community, open source, Solaris, they all received a CD with OpenSolaris, and most of them are trying it now!!!

In this post, I only write some words about the first event, in the city of San Francisco, Cordoba, where I started showing OpenSolaris. In the next days, as I blog about the others workshops, I will let you know more about the action here in Argentina

I was invited to participate in an open source event (lot of linux boys there) on 16 and 17 of May

I did 2 demos, where almost 80 people saw for the first time OpenSolaris. There was an interesting discussion with some debian's boys about opensolaris, and they couldn't believe that ZFS exists and that it really works!!!!

Here is a video, we're you can see people giving their opinion about Open Source, universities & Open Source, Companies (like Sun) and Open Source (it's funny to see some guys in the community when I tell them that Sun is creating a lot of open software), Open Solaris, Windows, Linux, educational problemas related with non open source, and a lot of interesting info (the bad thing, it's in spanish) Also you can see some nice photos.

Apart from this, I also give a Netbeans workshop (a little of J2ME, little of JavaFX, little of JRuby...) and at the end I delivered some gifts to the audience.

Between 19 and 23 with 2 more ambassadors, we went to 3 important universities, in Buenos Aires and La Plata city, I will write you about that soon!!!

I don't have the number of how many people joined the  Argentinian Open Solaris community these days, but Hernan Saltiel (Argentinian leader) is very glad to read posts from lot's of people who joined us in our talks...

Here you can read a post of an important blog about Open Source in Argentina. In this blog, a reporter recorded my talk, and gives a nice opinion about opensolaris (also in spanish)
