"Jaws" for the 21st Century

Just saw a movie this weekend that I think could easily be considered the "Jaws" of the 21st century...if it doesn't make you scared of going back into the ocean all together, it definitely could make you think about taking that diving trip you've always wanted to take. Or at the very least, you'll make sure that you check out the diving company with the proverbial fine toothed comb first.

Open Water - what a movie, my husband and I both had our insides all tied up in knots after leaving that one! If you haven't seen the reviews or the trailers, the basic premise of this based on fact story is that a couple, both of which are Type A personalities, in fact, they're way off the scale, decide they finally need to take a vacation. Of course, they don't leave without their laptop (probably sounds like a lot of us in this valley!) but it quickly gets forgotten (probably doesn't sound like a lot of us in this valley). Part of their vacation includes a diving trip...they join up with their boat early in the morning and by 12 noon or so, they've been stranded out in the open ocean with no boat to return to, stinging jellyfish, swarming sharks and a bunch of baby barracudas who seem to enjoy tasting them bit by bit. How did this happen? A passenger miscount is how the movie portrayed this misfortune....I wonder, how often does something like this happen? I won't give away the ending...you'll have to check this one out on your own. ( Aug 31 2004, 11:17:08 AM PDT ) Permalink

My first blog entry...Josh Groban Concert Review

Finally, my first blog entry...what to blog about? Hmmm, my pets...nah, you'll read about them later. My love of all things entertainment...nah, you'll read about them later too, I'm sure. So, I've decided that my first blog entry will be about a concert I just attended on Tuesday night. I went to see Josh Groban at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View. For those of you who don't know who Josh Groban is, check out his website. He's a very young, very talented musician who really became well known to alot of people, myself included, via his performances a few years back on the television show 'Ally McBeal' ...one of his most recent contributions was to the soundtrack of the movie "Troy" starring Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom with a song entitled "Remember" The concert audience was very mellow given Josh's musical style (classical / operatic with a bit of pop music thrown in for good measure) but you could tell that everyone really enjoyed spending their evening with such an individual. I'd have to say that my favorite songs that he did at this show were "Alejate" (from his first album); Vincent (he does a great rendition of this Don McClean classic) and finally he did a version of "America" (Simon & Garfunkel classic) as an encore that made me remember how well I loved that song.
