Happy Birthday to Me...

The day started a little before 6:00 AM, when my wife and kids "surprised" me with the usual birthday party. A cake, one candle (need a big cake for 44 candles...), and some candy and the songs. Needless to say, perfect start for the day. My wife is helping me lose weight. Not very successful if I may add. Yesterday, I had the lunch I brought from home, with a colleague. When she offered to go to the pantry to get coffee afterwords, I did not suspect a thing. To my great surprise, a large portion of my department, along with a big cake and a bottle of wine were waiting. I was touched. I said to someone the day before that I really feel at home in Beijing, and you know what, after that small gesture of a surprise party - I do even more. Later that day a few friends showed up for cake and coffee. You know what? 44 is not such a bad age after all... On Tuesday, I am heading to Seoul, Korea, for the Sun Techdays and OpenSolaris Day. After such a great experience in Beijing, I am looking forward to this event. In truth, I am tagging along with Mike Hayden, a colleague from Sun Engineering and Research Institue in Beijing. We will share the responsibilities of presenting and being the Master of Ceremonies at the OpenSolaris Day. I find it particularly rewarding to talk to people and reveal the OpenSolaris capabilities and strategy. BFN, we are heading for the Old Summer Palace in Beijing, and my 3 years old son is crying at the door trying to put his last year's shoes on. I tell you, I wish he would put put his creativity to better use...
