Every once in a while we need to take a break from code, documents, etc. and work on a project with our hands. Or at least I do. So, in honor of the Genesis's 20th anniversary, I embarked upon a weekend project to build a DIY version of the fabled Sega Neptune. Read about this never released system.

And the damn thing actually works! Pics and video below.

Genesis system board

32X system board. Already moved the video port.

Genesis cart slot removed and extension wires added. Soldered first set to back of the 32X cart slot.

Close up of the soldering/wires.

First side wired, ready for the second set.

Closeup of 32X board, tinned and lots of flux :)

Soldering finished, including bridge wires due to accidentally cutting 2 PCB traces :(

Testing the system. Only outputting red. Need to check all wires and traces....

Finished and working!

Left side.

Right side.

Back.

And a video of it working:

The walk through is from http://www.longhornengineer.com. I made some modifications to his design. Build one for yourself!
