The past few weeks
We've been busy bees the past couple of weeks - where have we been? We'll tell you:
The Social 7: We interviewed Nick Mendoza and Alex Miller from The Social 7, a video blog about what's going on in the realm of social media. Involved in Zeno Group's Digital Lifestyle practice, these 2 gentlemen (and 1 lady who unfortunately couldn't make the show) are truly spearheading what great Millenial PR buffs do - staying ahead of the game. Take a listen in the player and grab year-in-review social media highlights, as well as a sneak peak of what's to come in '09.
Games.com: New Gen chatted with Laurent Courtines, community manager of Games.com. Topics included the gaming world, trends, new developments and the latest games going on at this extension of AOL games.
Both can be heard right here. Enjoy!

Onion's spoof on new "Macbook Wheel"
As an avid Mac user, of course this made me chuckle. "I buy anything that's shiny and made by Apple". haha.

and we are back!!! Check out this spirited "sidewalk keynote"
Happy 2009 friends! Here is a peppy video from one of my fave wine enthusiasts and social media success stories, Gary Vaynerchuk. His passionate online branding and entrepreneurial spirit has created a ton of buzz for his New Jersey based Wine Library shop. Warning: This video is packed with potty language but his honesty and excitement is contagious.

Why I love the new OpenOffice 3
This week I got a chance to install the new OpenOffice 3 software suite on my laptop since the latest release is Mac OS compatible! It is an excellent alternative to Microsoft Office and can save students and small business owners bundles of cold hard cash. See what reviewers are saying too.
Here are the reasons why it's super cool and can honestly replace any other office suite software you use:
1. So easy to use! It will open all your Office, odp and export in several formats including PDF
2. It is the leading open-source office software with spreadsheets, word processing plus cool draw graphics and math equation programs for your docs.
2. It works on all common computers and available in multiple languages
3. It is developed using an open-software, "no secrets" approach.
Anyone can look at the programs and suggest improvements, or fix bugs
4. Free, really free.
That means you are free to download it,
free to install it on as many PCs as you like, free to pass copies to
as many people as you like
So guys, go download it and try this puppy out. It's the bomb I tell ya.

Holiday Gadget Guide (and so much more)
New Gen Tech has been on a 3 week hiatus, and during our downtime, we've been playing around with some good, and some not so good, gadgets. Monday's New Gen Tech show also briefly talks about a cool tech camp that Christian helped out with last Fri (more info after the swag)...
GADGETS (GOOD)
These aren't your traditional gift cards. Best Buy and Target are both offering some neat-o twists on these holiday staples. Best Buy cards double as portable speakers while Target's got a killer low-res digital camera built in to the cards. Only caveat is a $15 min. load on each card---but if ur gonna spend it anyways than its a great deal)c anyways than its a great deal)
The Nokia n97 may be the iPhone / STORM / G1 killer (though its not slated for early Spring).
Joyce likes the new HD Flip . For those parents out there, Paypall has, effectively, created an allowance system that parents can control for their virtual kids to shop till they drop (or at least until their weekly pay pall dollars are gone)
Christian had a chance to play with the Blackberry STORM, and needless to say, he wasn't very pleased with the performance...all to clunky for his speedy fingers, the tactile feedback was just too slow for him and his emailing patterns.
Finally, Joyce tipped the team to some (terribly) overpriced Dr. Dre sponsored Monster headphones. At $350 a pop, its a little too out of our league for sub-par performance.
Finally, Christian spent his Friday afternoon helping fellow New Gen Marketing colleague Colin Cupp carry out his latest tech camp at our Santa Clara campus. ~120 eager kids were soaking up some interactive demos and talks about Project Darkstar, Sun's gaming initiative, Project Wonderland, Sun's interactive world initiative, and learning about Atmosphir.com
Creative Director Dave Werner from Atmosphir showed us how easy it is to make your own drag-and-drop style videogames on the fly (and for FREE)
Tune in next Monday, Dec 15th at 10AM PT as we chat with JavaFX ppl Eric, David, and Jenn. These 3 are all involved with the marketing of this great new product (JavaFX.com)

InternshipIN
In our pre-podcast discussion of InternshipIN (2 posts below) we spoke with co-founder Arielle Scott. After our interview, we've learned a little more about both her and the company (like the upload your resume feature)...It was really great dip into one arena that's often underdiscussed in the job market, intrenships. Also, don't forget to check out the companies twitter handle here and start following them today!
So what's Arielle use to manage her hectic schedule: balancing community work, school, start-ups, social life, and "changing the world" all before she's 21? Well, in short, a lot of cool tech. Aside from the obvious iPhone, Highrise is a contact management app, is some pretty cool & affordable tech that allows an amazing level of control over everything contacts.
