Social Media for Generation ME
All that twitters IS gold..by Joyce Solano
I cannot believe how much my love for Twitter has grown. I am not so great at sharing long details. I like it to the point. Shot from the hip. NYC style all the way. So for me, updates about my fave peeps' lives in quick, fragmented sentences throughout the day is heavenly. Besides, I'm much more intrigued by a mundane fact (i just spilled my coffee all over my lap) than a long involved narrative aka.. short attention span.
However, it was widely noted in the blogosphere that Twitter's consistent outages would surely doom them into the web 2.0 grave, creating the perfect window of opportunity for Twitter-like competitors Jaiku or Plurk.
When Twitter service is down you see Yiying Lu's illustration of the "Fail Whale" being lifted out of the water by eight lil tweetering birdies. This image is so common in fact that it has become a popular t-shirt. Kinda awesome that their screen of doom, instead of sinking them, has become a hipster fashion garment. The Twitter fans continue to grow and we are patient with the crew and hope they will get it together. Their honesty and community facilitates this attitude among users. This is how I feel about zapppos. When they mess up, they are sooooo nice and offer such great easy service, that ya kinda can't help love 'em for it.
