Social Media for Generation ME
Digital string around the finger by Joyce Solano
Kwiry is a new SF based startup providing a service in which users can text reminders to themselves. At first, this seemed useless to me because I can use my iCal or notes feature on my iPhone. However, I know plenty of people that have very basic phones with not much function outside of SMS and dialing. The way Kwiry works is simple. If your walking past the record store and want a reminder to download that infectious M.I.A song, you text it to 59479 (k-w-i-r-y) and have links to search results automatically delivered to your email, RSS, favorite web startpage and kwiry's website.
Their platform has seen continuous upgrades and now can be integrated with calendars such as Outlook, iCal, and Google Calendar. You can also use your voice and call to text using Jott, for those inappropriate texting moments. In addition, today Kwiry has announced some cool new shortcuts:

I could see how this could totally come in handy some time. Thanks, Joyce!

this is something that would be totally useful for me. i have one of those basic phones-- no internet-- and i'm constantly needing to make a note of something on the go. eg., "when i get home, contact author interviewed on 84.5 FM, 1 am Jan 12, idea for revenue-generation, so i can finally get rid of this cheap cell and get an iphone."
there's a similar service, the very robust ubernote.com. you can send it notes from "Browser Tools & Web Clips, Web App, iPhone & SMS, AIM, and Email"
but ubernote results sent by SMS were a little disappointing-- a note send from my cellular sms was cluttered broken gifs, such as "cid:tmobilespace.gif". not that those gif's are the fault of ubernote, but it would be nice if they stripped out broken pics which are obviously not part of my note. but still worth checking out.
to avoid confusion, i might call kwiry "notes" rather than "reminders", since there are reminder services, which literally remind you to do something, like hassleme.co.uk, RememberTheMilk, gCal, and ToDoIst (my favorite web app in the world, ever).
