 Jeremy Clarkson drives an old banger...

Well, a slightly misrepresentive blog title designed to attract your attention! ;-) Aren't they all!

The banger in question was my 1983 Volkswagen Golf GTI (mk1) which, unlike most examples of this original hot hatch, is in 100% standard condition and worth a surprisingly high £6000 or so. As such it often makes the rounds for filming and magazine photo shoots...



I got a call from the producers of Jeremy Clarkson's videos asking for a Red Mk1 Golf GTI for filming at an airfield. There were only two conditions.

A : Could Jeremy have a go. B : Would you mind a race with a Ferrari Enzo?

Now I knew a mk1 Golf GTI with it's fuel injected 112bhp 1.8 litre isn't exactly slow (0-60mph in around 8 seconds) but expecting it to stay with a 6 litre 12 cylinder 650bhp Ferrari was probably asking a bit much of it.



Oddly enough though, the Golf won. Though I have to say, it wasn't a 'normal' race, as this tantalising picture will demonstrate.



Want to see more, you'll have to buy the DVD, out towards Christmas - 'Jeremy Clarkson, Cars from Heaven and Hell'

The day was good fun and Jeremy turned out to be quite an approachable chap, happy to pose for the inevitable 'Punter shot'.



I do think he has probably the best job in the world.

Yes! He was being merciless ribbed by the film crew too... As for the Stig, no chance. Wore the helmet all day and when he stopped for food he was wearing a balaclava! Cheers, Drew.

Nice car mate - love the GTI - one of the greatest cars of all time - easily the world's best hot hatch imo. Hopefully one day I'll own a car that Jezza or friends will want to use for their filmings - only time will tell. How did they find out about your car btw?

Sorry to resurect this but found this after finding out the new dvd is coming out on the 7th of november. So did Jeremy actually do any driving, i thought he wasn't supposed to from what he said on topgear! or was he just presenting. Thanks for the report looks like it was a fun day for all!!

Jeremy Clarkson is a nazi and a hypocrite, he claims that global warming is not caring, and then when you prove it is, he says he does not care what will happen in 2080, he does not care if the world dies out, surely someone who does not care what happens in 2080, should not be listened to, just like somebody who mdoes not care what ahppens in India, should not be listened to when we discuss India, he would not care if his kids died ,off, i am fed up of me helping hid kids, but him not he;ong mine, he is scum, and evil, and is the main cause of global warmingm, by his lies, and evil right wing, far rioght liezs, that will kill more than stalinm, hitkler, pol pot, and mao, and kaiser, and the tsar, and queen victoria put together, i like watching his tbv programmes though, bush is even more evil, 5:53 PM Anonymous said... but he is a horrible scumbag who deserves beaten up, as he hates nerds, and is a bully who beat up piers morgan, and he cheats on his wife, and even worse, she likes that, so he married to a real scumbag, an eye for an eye, no wonder lefties supported stalin against them

Well, well, well, a piece of anonymous hate mail immortalised on my blog!

I thought maybe I should delete it, but since there is no profanity, it's a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion, (even if it is daft) I've left it for the time being.

Funny though... Jeremy Clarkson, the main cause of global warming? I'm sure he'd be delighted at the thought! And, global warming has been proved has it? Excellent! References? ;-)

Piers Morgan got off lightly I reckon.

Funny how 'sdfsdf' admits to watching and liking Jeremy's TV programmes though, isn't that a little hypocritical too?

Nice car, i'm ver happy for you, i had my SEAT ibiza cupra in a magazine and that ws a very happy day so i can imajine what it was like to mat JeremayClarkson and have him drive your car. Oh and i loved the rent about him on this page did make me laff. Oliver
