As I mentioned in my previous post, Sun Federal has adopted a solution-based strategy that aligns with our federal government customer's mission critical goals and priorities. These reference architecture-based solutions are built using Sun and OEM IP, hardware, software and service components that can help organizations to achieve high-quality implementations and get to market faster.

Here's a quick primer on the solutions...

Datacenter Optimization - Reducing the number of redundant systems decreases both cost and risk while reducing distractions from the performance of agency core missions. Sun has a successful track record helping customers reduce costs, deliver predictable service levels and improve manageability.
High Performance Computing - Whether you are performing data analysis, molecular modeling, product simulations, portfolio optimization or other data-intensive tasks, Sun’s high performance computing (HPC) solutions deliver the application performance required to get the job done fast. Sun’s solution powers the University of Texas Austin’s Texas Advanced Computer Center (TACC) - Number 6 in TOP500.org’s list of supercomputers.
Visualization - The Sun Visualization System “virtualizes” visualization by treating the graphics hardware resources as a resource pool and dynamically assigning them to either sharing or scaling, or both.
ECO - Sun’s Eco Innovation Portfolio of products and services offers the industry’s most innovative and open energy-efficient solution. Now, going green is the smart and safe way to drive higher profits. It is good for business and good for the planet.
Information Lifecycle Management - Data intelligence software coupled with the most stringent security measures ensures that information is safely stored in Sun’s robust, highly scalable servers.
Disaster Recovery - On average, 20% of business applications will fail to recover when disaster strikes. With Sun, you can replicate production databases, improve storage utilization and management, reduce datacenter power, cooling and space requirements, provide resumption of the applications that support business operations, and optimize efficiency and performance of you business environment.
Cloud Computing - Sun’s cloud computing infrastructure includes the enterprise-class services, platforms, open-source software, and networked storage to enable organizations to access supercomputing power and flexibility without the costs and IT infrastructure headaches!
Virtualization - Sun’s virtualization offering is unlike those offered by competition and offers compelling business returns like reduced wattage, cooling and space needs, increased performance, reduced security risks with open source software, improved delivery of services to end-users, reduced costs through consolidation, increased utilization and improved manageability.
Enterprise Messaging - Sun delivers the core building blocks for implementing a robust enterprise-wide and service-provider–ready messaging solution with Microsoft Exchange or Open Source JES.
SOA/ESB - “Sun offers a comprehensive, industry leading portfolio of SOA /ESB solutions and Gartner has positioned Sun in the Leaders Quadrant.” (Source: Gartner “Predicts 2007: SOA/ESB Advances”)
Multi-Level Security - Sun offers a portfolio of fully defined, next generation, stateless, multi-level, ultra-thin client architectures and products for government. Products include secure multilevel desktop servers, storage, network intrusion and Sun’s proven operation system, open source Solaris™ 10 with Trusted Extensions. This second generation of a proven solution architecture, based on certified products and accredited deployments, maintains the security associated with physical air-gap networks. Many thirdparty partner products, such as biometrics, can be integrated to extend heterogeneous capabilities.
Identity Management - Sun’s open source Identity Management solutions are fully automated, eliminating costly manual processes associated with provisioning users, managing access and doing auditing/reporting. Integration reduces errors, and administrative cost savings cascade through common interfaces as the benefits of single sign-on capabilities continue to compound throughout the organization. Sun’s open, integrated infrastructure supports collaboration across multiple, dynamic, heterogeneous agencies and IT environments both internal and external.
Cyber Security - During the early cyberspace pioneer days, Sun was among the core vendors working together with the U.S. Government, security organizations, and universities around the country to combat the onset of network intrusions and to provide effective defenses against cyberattacks. Sun remains committed to the long running relationships with the U.S. Government. The contributions that Sun has made to ensure that built-in security controls are widely available in open technology -- based on open standards and open source development -- have extremely high value to help ease the pain of the cybersecurity reality. The Sun Federal Information Assurance Group has been chartered to provide security expertise and cybersecurity response coordination.
Unified Communications - Sun and Mitel have joined forces to drive the use of converged voice and data applications in multi-tenant environments. Mitel’s unified communications call control software can be integrated into industry-standard Sun servers for enterprise and carrier hosted and customer premise environments. Sun and Mitel have also created a unified solution based on Mitel’s award winning IP phones and Sun Ray™ ultra-thin client hardware.
Secure Messaging - The BlueSpace and Sun solution leverages Sun’s unique strengths in the defense and intelligence communities. It allows improved process integration, access control and oversight for transactional messaging, while aggregating messages across multiple classification levels into a single interface for the end-users.
Data Retrieval - CopperEye and Sun have teamed to provide an innovative enterprise data retention and retrieval solution that provides fast query access to large volumes of business transaction data stored in low-cost file systems. The solution scales easily, managing hundreds of terabytes of data representing several years worth of transaction history acquired at rates in excess of ten million records per day. It does so while providing immediate access to transactions as they occur, without the need for batch loads or for massive hardware to support this performance.
Video Surveillance - The Sun Video Surveillance Solution improves the accuracy, performance, and retention of a video surveillance system, while dramatically reducing the cost of deployment. It can also save as much as two-thirds the cost of traditional servers and storage. This integrated solution, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras, can bring your entire video surveillance system in line with your most advanced IT systems.
