Some people enjoy the opportunity to be the smartest guy in the room. Since this is, umm, pretty much never a problem for me, I do tend to notice when said smart people fail to live up to the huge responsibility that comes with such a title.
Of course, there are those who only think they're the smartest guys in the room. These folks will often trip themselves up like the guy on the bus who corrects a stranger's conversation with, "Dude, Steven Spielberg did not direct The Empire Strikes Back."
With all the world's smartness mixed with all this stupidity, I've been working on a theory.

We are born into this world with only two responsibilities: to be intelligent and to be kind. When your actions fail on either count, chances are you will end up violating both and the world will suffer as a result.
Exhibit A: The Enron guys as depicted in the book The Smartest Guys in the Room. When they were busy manipulating energy markets and bragging about putting Grandmothers on food stamps, they were not being very kind.
Now it turns out that they weren't quite as smart at they thought. One can only hope that their new neighbors at the penetentiary find them to be the Cutest guys in the room.
