The principle for Day #81 on the 101-day book report says: "Resist the need to be boastful."
I'm in this far away place called Dresden that I only knew about from reading Slaughterhouse Five as a kid. The city beautiful in it's quaint old-world kind of way, but riding into town I felt like I saw a ghost.
A huge brick building was being demolished on the corner. The smoke and dust of the final story was curling into the sky as a fire truck hosed it down.
The fire-bombing of Dresden is an unmentioned thing here. And the old cathedrals and government buildings seem a testament to what survived history.
It may not be boastful, but the allies of today are tourists to what they once burned to the ground.
