Happy 9th Birthday OpenOffice.org!
Elizabeth Matthis

Nine years ago today, Oct 13th, OpenOffice.org was called into being.

For some history see here

OpenOffice.org's Mission Statement was and still is...

To create, as a community, the leading international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format.

It has been a pretty successful 9 years, with OOo having achieved approx 10% market share and even more in certain segments and countries.

So to the millions of OOo users and community members, eat, drink and be merry! It is wonderful to have something to celebrate.
;-)

Open Office is why my PC runs Linux instead of Windows. Frankly, pre-OOo, Linux was nice, but without an office suite, not usable as a replacement for Windows. With StarOffice, now OOo, that changed. Thanks to the OOo developers for creating a software suite that is serious competition for MS Office. Keep up the good work!

Many thanks for this product!
It is an excellent product, much more better than the suite coming from a well known competitor.
Go ahead!
I hope there will be a lot of bithdays in the future!
