Bob Sutor commented IBM's "no" vote for the ECMA Office Open XML file format a month ago in his blog as follows: "ODF is about the future, Open XML is about the past. We voted for the future." (see here for the full blog entry).
This comment reminded me of a similar statement I made myself a couple a times in the past: "ODF is designed for the future, not the past.".

In the last couple of days, I have spent some time on reworking the XML project's web pages.
The page whose content changed most is the start page. It now contains a full list of the XML project's sub projects, as well as new references to opendocument.xml.org, the OASIS OpenDocument TC's web page, and to ISO.
The pages that list the project's modules and those that list filters, tools, articles and reports have been re-created in the OpenOffice.org Wiki. This should make it much easier to keep them up to date. If you are aware of a filter or an article that should be listed there, send us a note on the dev@xml.openoffice.org mailing list, and we will add it.
New in the Wiki is a list of the topics the XML project is working on, and of the topics where we are looking for contributors. Don't hesitate to contact us, if you are interested in contributing to one of these topics, or some other topic related to our project.
The last change effects the navigation in the pages. Like the API and UDK projects, the XML project now uses the “project_tools.html“ feature to enhance the navigation toolbar on the left side of the start page. We are using this to provide a direct access to the information in the Wiki. (Kay, thank you very much for the hint that the navigation bar is customizable).
I wish all of you Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

The OpenDocument ISO standard is now published. It's official name is ISO/IEC 26300:2006.
You may get a copy of it in the ISO store. The OASIS version is of cause still available at the OASIS web site.
