New Lights Out Management (ILOM) for UltraSPARC T2 based servers
A revolutionary new Systems
Management platform for a paradigm changing chip (Sun UltraSPARC T2)
and
servers (Sun SPARC Enterprise T5x20).
Introducing the
Sun
Microsystems Integrated
Lights Out Management (ILOM). ILOM is a new Systems Management platform that offers ease and flexibility in
systems
Operation, Administration, Maintenance and Monitoring of
mission-critical
systems for the busy Systems Administrator. ILOM is based on industry
standards
and therefore easy for any Systems Administrator to learn and master.
Moreover,
ILOM integrates seamlessly into your existing 3rd party
management
solutions thus accelerating time to deploy and reducing management
overhead.
ILOM is a common
Systems
Management platform that is available on not just SPARC, but also all
x64
servers from Sun. For folks that are used to ALOM (Advanced Lights Out
Management) on our previous SPARC platforms, ILOM offers a
compatibility shell
that has the same look and feel as that of ALOM and thus offers a
suitable
migration path for such users.
ILOM gives the
choice of a
Graphical User Interface or a Command Line Interface based on industry
standards such as DMTF-CIM
(Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. - Common
Information Model (CIM) Specification), SNMP
(Simple Network Management
Protocol) and IPMI
(Intelligent Platform Management Interface).
ILOM offers the
following
notable features – all a must for any kind of remote command and
control of a
- Hardware
Control, Inventory and Monitoring
- Host
configuration and administration
- SP
configuration and administration
- Logging,
Auditing, Alerting (email alerts, SNMP Traps, IPMI PETs)
- Authentication:
LDAP, RADIUS, Active Directory, Local User Accounts
- Services:
SSH and HTTP(S)
ILOM is truly a
remarkable
new Systems Management technology from Sun Microsystems for its UltraSPARC T2
based systems. Check it out today on a Sun SPARC T5120 or T5220
and I am
certain you will love it!

You missed the best bit. It is free with the server!
Any chance we can get the KVM and remote media features from the x64 systems too? It would be great to manage these super new SPARC boxes in the same manner as the rest of my datacenter.

Yes it is free, but don't tell our shareholders that :-)
ILOM is part of our Sun SPARC T5120 or T5220 system.
Also, on KVMS front - I think it is a cool feature. Of course, I can not speculate on if and when it will be available on T5120 or T5220 in this forum.
Suffice it to say, that we are always considering cool features that our customers show interest in for the future.

Hi,
Request your kind help on the following..
Ubuntu 7.10 installation on Sparc T5220.
Downloaded the correct image (gutsy) from ubuntu site.
Tried installation through local DVD rom and also through tftp boot
installation hangs after SILO.
Even purchased cannonical support from Ubuntu but still in vain.
We have even tried an installation with LDOMs.
But could not load ubuntu on to the machine we have tried the exact version 7.10 and also 8.10.
Solaris works just great but Ubuntu ?
