I'm one of the Christmas Trees at Sun. My brothers and sisters are scattered throughout the world. This is the season when we're brought indoors as a decoration for the Christmas Season. I don't have to endure the dreaded hacksaw or die an untimely death like my "real" brethren. No, I'm usually stored in a box where I hibernate most of the year and come out to enjoy the holidays in late November and December. Some of the more elite trees are covered with expensive ornaments, lights, tinsel, and garland. I do have lights, though embarrassingly enough, one string intermittently blinks at the oddest times. I can't say that's my most flattering look. I'm a little too old to be flashing that way and I'd rather not draw attention to my midsection. (I think it makes me look fat!) But according to all the TFEs (Trees Fashion Experts), blinking lights are coming back in style, so I'll just consider myself a trend-setter.
Currently, I'm covered with gift tags. Unlike traditional trees, I start out adorned with tags with wishes from seniors and children hoping to be remembered on Christmas. Every day, Sun employees come by and pick off one of my tags, filling those wishes, returning with gifts that will help make someone's Christmas a little brighter. My tags aren't fancy, but I'm proud that I help to carry on such a worthy tradition.
What do I think of Sun? I feel proud to stand tall in an organization that values diversity. A place where each employee is free to practice their ethnic or religious customs of choice without judgment. A place where charity and volunteerism are encouraged, fostered, and contagious.
I wanted to put this picture up now while I'm still full of tags. I get excited as each tag gets plucked off because it means another wish will be filled. I know my bare branches are beautiful, but this is a public blog, and I wouldn't feel comfortable to have a photo of me with only my lights on, plastered all over the internet. Rest assured, though, that those tags will get taken and be replaced with beautifully wrapped gifts. I am always moved by the generosity of the people that surround me. If you happen to go by me or one of my brothers or sisters, come shake my branch, take a tag, and make someone's Christmas wish come true.
