Recently, our ISV Engineering team in India did performance testing with Zinnia Systems' Zarada Revenue Management Systems on Sun systems, Solaris 10, and GlassFish.  These tests demonstrated excellence price performance and throughput.  See more information here.

Earlier this week, a new release of the Java store and Warehouse was announced.   This new release brings a number of new features such as account creation into the client, ability to preview your app using the store view for developers outside of the US, improved integration with PayPal, increased performance, other small features, and bug fixes.  

 

Additionally, the Java Warehouse is now open to 6 more countries:

•  Israel
• Belgium
• Germany
• Poland
• Taiwan
• S. Korea

Yesterday, GlassFish v3 was released.  V3 is a major product release as it includes support for JavaEE 6, a new modular, OSGI-based architecture, and new sets of JCP specifications.

Today, JavaFX Mobile 1.2 for Windows Mobile OS has been released.  This release includes:

 

•  implementation of JavaFX 1.2 supported on selected Windows Mobile handsets

Today, at the PayPal conference, Sun and PayPal announced that PayPal will now be a payment option for the Java Store. To read about the announcement and all the details, check out this article.   Additionally, the Java Store and Warehouse are now live.

If you are using Java SE 5.0, you need to know that the EOSL for Java SE 5.0 occurred on Oct 30th.  Version 5.0u22 is the last publicly available update of 5.0.

GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1.1 has been released.   This version provides infrastructure support for the SailFin Application Server (Telco), contains about 170 bug fixes, and includes updates to several component packages including JSF, Grizzly, Jersey, and Open MQ.  You can refer to the GlassFish v2.1.1 page for details on the improvements that went into this release.  The bits for this release can be accessed as follows:

Today, the Java team announced the release of the Java ME SDK for Mac (Early Access).  This is the first release that brings the functionality of the Wireless Kit to Mac and its developers.  You can check out the EA version at:

New in this release are the Web Stack Enterprise Manager, and support for fully relocatable IPS(5) based Update Center distribution. Recently, the MySQL Community Team has introduced the MySQL Librarian.  In short, the MySQL Librarian is a collection of community-generated and cross referenced content related to MySQL.  It is a place where the community can collaboratively build and maintain MySQL content.  Guiseppe Maxia provides a good introduction to the MySQL Librarian at:

MySQL has adopted a new release model -- Milestone Releases.  In short, the goals of the new model for the MySQL Server are these:

1. Deliver more frequent releases of the server with better predictability in terms of a release date
2. Make new features and enhancements more quickly available
3. Provide a model that encourages and rewards community contributions to the MySQL Server
