Today, at the PayPal conference, Sun and PayPal announced that PayPal will now be a payment option for the Java Store. To read about the announcement and all the details, check out this article.   Additionally, the Java Store and Warehouse are now live.

GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1.1 has been released.   This version provides infrastructure support for the SailFin Application Server (Telco), contains about 170 bug fixes, and includes updates to several component packages including JSF, Grizzly, Jersey, and Open MQ.  You can refer to the GlassFish v2.1.1 page for details on the improvements that went into this release.  The bits for this release can be accessed as follows:

Today, the Java team announced the release of the Java ME SDK for Mac (Early Access).  This is the first release that brings the functionality of the Wireless Kit to Mac and its developers.  You can check out the EA version at:

MySQL has adopted a new release model -- Milestone Releases.  In short, the goals of the new model for the MySQL Server are these:
  1. Deliver more frequent releases of the server with better predictability in terms of a release date
  2. Make new features and enhancements more quickly available
  3. Provide a model that encourages and rewards community contributions to the MySQL Server

Recently, one of the engineers in ISV Engineering worked with Zmanda to create an article on how to use ZFS snapshots with Zmanda Recovery Manager for MySQL on OpenSolaris.  The article details how to deploy ZRM for MySQL on OpenSolaris and details the performance of ZRM on a Sun Fire x4500 using ZFS.  Check out the article here.
