Hello there, welcome here

Hello all, welcome to Joey Guo's weblog.  In the near future you will be reading more interesting blogs on Solaris x86 drivers development; SCSI HBA/RAID drivers like mpt, adpu320, aac, amr; RAID configuration tool, raidctl(1M) and new RAID configuration tool in the air.

About me? I'm Joey Guo (郭朝峰), Solaris x86 Engineering, located at Beijing, China. After winning the postgraduate degree from BeiHang Univ, I joined Sun China Engineering and Research Institute as a software engineer. In the past one years, I have worked on the Solaris x86 device driver like adpu320/cadp160, mostly porting to amd64 and fixing urgent bugs. After the GA of Solaris 10, I have gained some time to join the RAID configuration tool project, which attempts to deliver a uniform RAID configuration tool for all kinds of RAID controllers support on Solaris, mostly SCSI RAID for now. In future IDE/SATA RAID supported on Solaris. Besides the Solaris storage drivers and configurators, my favorite area is network storage like NAS and IP SAN. Any comments are welcome! :-)

Hi, I am seeking a tyan motherboard for a futur solaris 10 box (Sun workstation are too expensive for a poor student ^^). One of them have the Sil3114 controller. Is this controller supported today on solaris 10, or do I need to choose another controller ? Do you know any SATA/SCSI controller that is fully supported by Solaris 10 (I mean also for hardware RAID). Regards

AFAIK, there are no SATA RAID support in Solaris. But we do have supported SATA Controller from Intel, SI. As for SCSI RAID, there are supported controllers from two vendors Adaptec and LSI Logical w/ two corresponding SCSI RAID driver aac, amr. Also If you use the LSI 1030 controllers, Solaris could support its integrated mirroring and stripping, namely, RAID-1 and RAID-0. NAME aac - SCSI HBA driver for Adaptec AdvancedRAID Controller DESCRIPTION The aac plain SCSI host bus adapter driver is a SCSA- compliant nexus driver that supports the Adaptec 2200S/ 2120S SCSI RAID card and Dell PERC 3Di SCSI RAID controller. The aac driver ports from FreeBSD and only supports basic RAID disk I/O functions. NAME amr - SCSI HBA driver for LSI MegaRAID Controller DESCRIPTION The amr plain SCSI host bus adapter driver is a SCSA- compliant nexus driver that supports the Dell PERC 3DC/4SC/4DC/4Di and LSI MegaRAID 320-2x SCSI RAID devices. The amr driver ports from FreeBSD and only supports basic RAID disk I/O functions.

I want a patch of the aac driver.

It woul be nice if the amr driver would support all the devices that the FreeBSD amr driver supports, including the SATA MegaRaid 150-4 and 150-6. They are all in the same family of devices and should easily be supported.

Does the aac driver support the 2410SA and 2810SA like the freeBSD aac driver?

Does Solaris x86 support the LSI MegaRAID SATA 300-8X configured with a RAID5 disk of 6 disks and 2 host spares? I did find that while installing Solaris 10 on an LSI MegaRAID 320-1LP caused problems with driver installation it was possible to upgrade from Solaris 9 sucessfully.
