"It's amazing, so many people come to the OpenSolaris Day and so many questions from the audience change my impression that China students were silent!" As Mike Hayden said after his keynotes speech, we have got so much popularity from their warm-hearted applauses and valuable questions.

A total number of 380 professors and students joined us at the event. All of them received a localized version of the OpenSolaris Starter Kit, a copy of the localized version of the NetBeans World Tour CD, an SCJP preparation guide, and a T-Shirt. About 1/5 of them also received various gifts such as the drinking cups, Java dukes, and the Solaris 10 Red Bible. An iPod was given away to the winner during the lucky draw.

The registration was getting started since 8:30am, actually at 8:00am there were about 200 students registered and entered the conference hall. This is rare case in OpenSolaris Day, even during TechDays. When the event was beginning at 9:30am, in the hall with 350 capacity, every seat was occupied, and more people were continuously coming after the second class was closed.

Mike's Keynotes speech and John's translation got a lot of attention and it lasted about one and a half hours. After his speech, many many hands raised to ask questions. The expected 3 questions to catch up the schedule grew to 7 questions eventually. John Jiang's SCJP session led students' passion and several ones registered for exam on-site. From my first presentation of DTrace, DTrace is not that hard for students to get interested. Dave's JDS demo triggered a lot of interests. And Frank's session was well appreciated by the students.

Below is the agenda for today's event:

9:00 -- 10:30, Open Source at Sun (Mike Hayden)
10:30 -- 11:00, SCJP and Java Career Path (John Jiang)
11:00 -- 11:30, Solaris DTrace Demo (Joey Guo)
11:30 -- 12:00, Solaris JDS New Features (Dave Lin)
12:00 -- 12:30, Solaris and Linux Development and BrandZ (Frank Lin)

Thanks a lot for all the people support this event, especially Mike Hayden for his enthusiastic and passion, and all the tireless folks preparing and delivering the excellent presentations: Frank Lin, Dave Lin and John Jiang. Special thanks for Teresa Giacomini, John Jiang and Jason Tong for your strong support.

This is the first trial to deliver OpenSolaris Day and it's well deserved. At the final lucky draw, when I asked who have chosen "Yes" of the question of "Are you willing to register onto our OpenSolaris discuss list to keep up the conversation?" on the questionnaire, almost everyone raised their hands. Gee! Can you imagine who got 380 OpenSolaris registration during one OpenSolaris Day?

After conversation with other folks, we come to realize that the second level cities are huger potential targets since there are much more potential for our growth, developer and adoption.  Let's look forwards more OpenSolaris Days on campus.

We really appreciate your contribution and support, and wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year during the holiday seasons!
