Although it's cold in Wuhan city now, the Solaris Course Training is heating the teachers from Wuhan and nearby cities. 

During Dec. 9 - 10 in Huazhong University of Science and Technolgy, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, 45 university Operating System/Unix Programming/C Programming teachers were trained with the latest Solaris/OpenSolaris technology and the Sun Studio IDE. 3 China professors delivered tutoring on Solaris Courses Plugin for OS and Solaris System Programming. We have installed 45 Solaris machines so that all teachers finished the labs on his individual machine installed with Solaris build 50 and Sun Studio 11 (via the Solaris Developer Starter Kit with Automatic Installer). The Automatic Installer has greatly improved the installation efficiency. We have installer about 40 machines in about 4 hours of automatic installation in parallel from NetInstall server. Before that we have installed the NetInstall server with the Automatic Installer. (Please refer to my blog on Automatic Installer)

During the Panel Discussion in the afternoon of Day 2, we gave introduction to the following topics:
Sun Academic Initiative
SCSA Certificate
Special Initiative to Promote Solaris/OpenSolaris in University OS Classes
Special Initiative to Promote Sun Studio in University Unix/C
Programming Classes

The teachers were very interested in these programs. They all believed that these will help them a lot in their actual teaching. When being asked whether they are willing to use Solaris in their OS class, most of them happily said yes. They will practice more on Sun Studio/DTrace/MDB to integrate them into the Lab courses. 

After quick screening of the survey forms, below are the highlights:
1. 45 professors from 14 universities attended the training
2. 32 professors are planning to integrate Solaris into their OS/System Programming courses. (71%)
3. professors from 12 universities are going to integrate Solaris into their curriculum. (85%)

We are currently working on the survey stats, and will share with you when the results are available.
