During the Panel Discussion in the afternoon of Day 2, we gave
introduction to
the following topics:
- OpenSolaris Programming Contest (under preparation)
- Solaris Experience Center (www.unix-center.net)
- Special Initiative to Promote Solaris/OpenSolaris and Sun Studio in
University OS / Unix Programming Lab Courses
- Sun Academic Initiative
The teachers were very interested in these programs. They all believed
that
these will help them a lot in their actual teaching. When being asked
whether
they are willing to use Solaris in their OS class, most of them happily
said
yes. They need more documents on Sun Studio/DTrace/MDB to integrate
them into
the Lab courses.
After quick screening of the survey forms, below are the highlights:
1. 47 professors from 29
universities attended the
training
2. 43 professors are planning to integrate Solaris into their OS/ Unix
Programming courses. (91.5%)
3. professors from 27 universities are going to integrate Solaris into
their
curriculum. (93.1%)
