As scheduled, at Day 1 we will have the preparation meeting with the Tech support volunteer students and the teachers to coordinate the meeting. The meeting started at 4pm and closed at 6:30pm. During this meeting, we have assignmed the 96 teams into 11 groups, each engineer together with 2 students will support 1 team. Also, we have spreaded the System Checklist for each contesting machine to support volunteers.
After the assignment, Daniel Zhu, Liu Yu, Ye Liang gave the training of Solaris common operation, Sun Studio and NetBeans Demo to the volunteer students. They are very impressed with the NetBeans 5.5 C/C++ Pack and Sun Studio Express 3 new features.
At 6:30pm, contestant team was starting to enter the exam scene and volunteers got ready. Some teams started to try the new developer tools on Solaris platform. It's the first time for most teams so that they are very eager to start the contest. After long waiting until 7:30pm, after all the coach has finished the team number draw. The warm-up contest started.
During the warm-up, we have encountered a bunch of questions raised by the teams. After the 2 hour warm-up, we have collected all the issues and specified the critical ones. Thanks to our excellent engineers, we have found out the solutions quickly and written one script to fix all the problems.
Some notable ones and the solutions are:
- Sun Studio will wiat for half a minute (Too long for a contest) to quit the process when pressing the "Quit Debugging" short-cut during debugging.
o Daniel Zhu and Riny Qian has found out this bug by "mv /bin/mail /bin/mail.old" (It's really a excellent workaround)
- If NetBeans C/C++ Pack kills dead-loop program, NetBeans IDE hangs.
o Latest C/C++ Pack has resolved this issue and after reinstall this plugin this problem is gone. Thanks to Doc. Liu Yu (Teacher from Capital Normal University to offer help) to identify this problem and provide the new C/C++ Pack. (It's really
- Printer issue
o Edgar Liu writes a script to update all print execute with the correct ones.
We also copied the documents like NetBeans development document and Javadocs to Deskto to facilitate the contestants.
