What does SUNW stand for?

I actually learnt something today..  Do you know what the Sun NASDAQ stock symbol SUNW stands for?

   It stands for Sun Worldwide.

It may stand for that now, but originally it stood for "Stanford University Network Workstation" ;-)

I was gonna say the exact same thing - even Jon Schwartz said that when Sun reintroduced a line of fast workstations a few years ago. Next year it might stand for SUN Web 2.0 :-)

The 'SUN' part is named after, but not for, "Stanford University Network".

The W is for workstation.

This is interesting feedback. I have also heard that SUNW stood for Stanford University Network Workstation. I was more thinking as to the "Ticker" symbol on NASDAQ. It would be interesting to know as to when Sun was first listed on the NASDAQ as to what "SUNW" stood for and what SUNW now stands for.
