To motivate myself to coming Tokyo Marathon, I purchased US$240 GPS wrist watch with heart rate monitor. This is roughly 40% cheaper than its competitor Garmin Forerunner.

GH-625 series provide fully-sealed, waterproof and large LCD wrist-watch device, as well as GPS navigation function that locate track point from start to stop. It is adopted for people who exercise for broad kinds of outdoor sport, such as Jogging, Running, Biking

Here is a nice review with some pictures. What it doesn't say is one can upload routes created on Google Maps so one can follow the predefined route on bike/run.

This can be used for car navigation, geocaching, geotagging, as well. So, I think it's a good buy even if one doesn't use heart rate monitor.
Comments:

$240? Thats what I paid for my forerunner 2 years ago when they were still expensive :-)

The current 'el cheapo' would be the forerunner 305 for $160.

The garmin 405 is newer, slightly smaller and a lot more expensive. I tell everybody I know that unless they want the smaller size and touch interface to get the 305. (Its only $10 more than the 205 which lacks the HR monitor, you can sell the strap on ebay for 2x that)

Thanks John,

I was comparing with Garmin Forerunner 405 which cost US$600 at many stores in Japan.( and that's even without heart rate monitor).

You are right, I should have compared with Forerunner 305.

You pay way too much for Garmin 405 GPS. I have Garmin 405 GPS with HRM for $295 and without HRM for $260. If you are interested let me know.
