Today I want to introduce next Sun SPOT related project “Sensor-motor manipulation interface”. The aim of the project is to create wireless manual input device for computer. This project consists of two parts. First part is sensor-motor gloves with sun spot device on them and push buttons. Processing data from Sun SPOT accelerometer sensor we can determine position of our hands. Push buttons is used for generating such events as button pressed, released or clicked which can be used differently in your application.

Second part of this project is a specially developed java library which gives you ability to use this sensor-motor interface in your applications. Java library consists of such three parts: library which must be deployed on Sun SPOT device on the gloves, library which can be used in your own Java application in the PC and cross-platform Java driver for this sensor-motor gloves. Using this driver we can get information from gloves and retransfer it to another one application via network. So if some native or cross-platform application want to work with sensor-motor gloves it only must to connect to the driver which will send necessary information.

What about demos that using this interface? Firstly, I want to demonstrate it using new and cool technology from Sun Microsystems – JavaFX. I've created JavaFX application in which we can do different manipulation with images and videos such as translating, rotating, scaling using sensor-motor gloves. It is possible because of cross-platform Java driver.

You can watch cool video about this project using RuTube link or OSUM link.

Also you can download source codes and participate at the project. For that you must go to the project's page at dev.java.net.
Next step is C++, Java applications, Desktop environment...

Very cool. How do you do full spatial positioning with just accelerometers in Sunspots? I have a kit and I can't figure it out.

I did it using only physics formulas of curvilinear motion and other not very hard tricks :) You can looked at source codes (they well documented) and all will become clean for you ;)
