Now that Lent is over, we're back to eating Brussels Sprouts at my house. MMMM.  Even if you think you don't like brussels sprouts, here is a recipe that will win you over:

  1. Go to the store and get brussels sprouts, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil.  Get about twice as many brussels sprouts as you think you can possibly eat, and plan to cook them all.  Bring it all home.
  2. Once home, lop the bottom ends off the brussels sprouts with a knife.
  3. Then, cut the brussel sprouts in half lengthwise so that you expose the greatest possible inside surface area.  Put the cut sprouts in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Finely chop 3-4 cloves or garlic.
  5. Warm a large skillet over low heat.  Cover the surface with olive oil to about 1/8-1/4" deep.
  6. Turn up the heat, get the oil reasonably hot, and then saute the garlic for about 45 seconds.
  7. Drop in the sprouts so that the exposed, cut areas are face down to the surface of the skillet. Throw in any stray leaves.
  8. Reduce the heat, cover, and let cook for around 5 minutes.
  9. After 5 minutes, remove the cover, saute for around a half minute until all the sprouts are covered in oil and a dark green color, and then serve.
This is a really, really good recipie from my old friend Maria, and it will turn you into a brussels sprouts lover!

Hey Martin,
Just out of curiosity, what does lent have to do with eating brussel sprouts? I hope it's not a serious violation that I neglected to learn in catechism. I'll be sad if I get shut out at the pearly gates because of poorly timed brussel sprout consumption.

At any rate, the recipe sounds yummy...I'll try it, but not until the you-know-what launches.

Oh, you have to look at the context of the previous posting about cookies and Brussels sprouts.
