If you frequent our web sites, you've probably noticed the change:  There's a fresh new look, and we've also updated things to make it easier to navigate.

Rather than explain everything, which I will do in coming weeks, I thought I would show some before and after pictures...

to effect with just a CSS, masthead, and auto

(Just a simple visual update via CSS, but
we cut the index page load time by 50%!)

In many cases, we've changed a lot more than the look... things I should be able to talk about over the next days and weeks as the smoke clears and we all catch up on our sleep!

Cheers.

Comments:

Although I liked the Red, Yellow, Purple scheme of the old site and product marketing, I love the new design. I cannot wait to see what this will mean for the rest od Sun's marketing properties. I always like how Sun's stuff is so unified.

It's really very COOL interface and look and feel. I am feeling the ocean look and feel of java 1.5 Tiger interface. I feel now the loading time will be to be much faster than the previous version. And about the navigation, seems to be having more lively user experience. If possible please kindly post about the blueprints used for creating this interface.

There seems to be issues with the style sheets' age and Firefox - on first loading, you get the old colours and no bar across the top.

The redesign of the java forum to use non-fixed width fonts for the code sections, and the outstanding bugs in that forum (eg no urls) have not been adressed.

(the way the preview button resizes when clicked is a bit odd too, as does the removal of   between the two paras above from the textedit)

I really liked the old Yellow+Purple scheme that was so different from anybody else. The new one is nice though, if a little bland.

God, its beautifull! At last! How old was the previous design?

Looks like nobody bothered to test it with Mozilla/JDS (duh)... been browsing for two minutes and uncovered all sorts of abhorrations. Doesn't give a great impression of the quality of Sun's products.

RE 213.202.156.13 I had good luck with Firefox on JDS3. Non sequitor on the product quality, by the way.

Thanks for these comments. We tested with a wide variety of browser/OS/version combinations. But we probably obviously didn't get everything: There are some combinations that default to the wrong font style and thus cause legibility issues, and we'll be updating our style sheets soon to accommodate these. You can also try a SHIFT-RELOAD to make sure you have the latest CSS (Safari is notorious for over-caching CSS). Cheers,

Hey -- check your links! Old links to Sun products are now 404 thanks to the redesign. You might try using 301 redirects in .htaccess...
