Most of the positive comments on my blog are related to the original lists I posted about my favorite or recently seen concerts and bands. So, here's the update:
  • On the turntable: Wonderful new Flaming Lips picture disk and Viva Last Blues...because the newest Will Oldham is so wonderful that it makes you want to purchase the old favorites all over again.
  • In the Civic: Local SF band Von Iva, they kick your ass with LOVE
  • In the Walkman: LouisXIV and yes still listening to latest White Stripes as I pound up the steps to Twin Peaks
  • .
  • The Telecaster: New song inspired by 8-year-old-girl that I know, Katie's Song, I stole that sweet fast riff from Bloc Party's first single and slammed it into a LouisXIV chorus, viola, new MissMichelle song :)
  • PS: OMG, I finally went to the new Guitar Center on Van Ness Ave @ California and holy crap it is amazing stuff, they have a huge place that is part hard rock cafe part drummer wet dream and mostly just a musicians themepark full of vintage amps and guitars behind glass rooms and rooms of insanely great gear and fun stuff to look at. The sheet music and books still leave something to be desired. I'll miss the 'always Maiden all the time' rule of the old SOMA location, sniff, but the new digs are worth a visit.
  • Concert Roundup: Billy Corigan, wow what a show, we won free tickets and had our minds blown. Go see this tour. Greenday at SBC park, unreal, 40K people holding their handsets up and squeeling for more. NIN, we went two nights in a row at the Warfield and each was more insane than the last. The Dresden Dolls opened and they are a duo that makes almost more noise than NIN, do pick up their debut album. Nothing bad can be said about Trent, he is older, buffer and still makes music of type and cred that is unmatched by any of his counterparts. With Teeth is no exception. Oh boy, then we saw The Pixies, my first time ever, and the sound was beautiful and totally consuming. And you could tell that they were having so much fun together again. The Bell Rays opened the show with a rocking jolting get off your booty romp that inspired me to put on heels and dance. Yes I am a technical writer. That was summer. We ramped up again with recent attendance at Israel Vibrations and Living Color, religious experiences to be sure. Living Color almost appeared to be making their final final show or something, it felt like they were really saying goodbye. Israel can only make you thankful to be alive, that is what their music does, it makes you thank. Von Iva played with Hey Willpower and if you can go to see Hey Willpower live, you must do so. It is a sight and feeling of the 80s unmatched until now. Von Iva was so good that I've seen them twice since I updated my list. If you go to see Von Iva expect to see women dancing without any inhibition, without any regard for what people say, dancing with everything they've got. That's what you'll see and want to do.
