You sysadmin, me writer
So, I came onto the Sun blog scene like a jerk, but I do nothing halfway, if I can help it. In the end, the ~200 folks who read my little rant very likely weren't impressed. But, I am a part of this community, if not a rough and thorny part, more near the root than flower.
I have another test fashioned, to see if I can get word out to the folks I want to know most, but who are difficult to find. You know who you are, my sysadmin friends, you have no time for chatter or puzzlers. You need answers. I am here. I work on a pre-v1.0 product for Sun that will be great someday, I mean S10 great. I know because we've got some excellent minds working on it.
If you are a sysadmin and you have 10 or more servers in your care, drop me a line about docs, help, labels, errors, messages, command line, GUI, whatever is on your mind. If you track fan speeds and CPU temps like a bloodhound and shudder at the thought of an OS upgrade, let me know your firmware nightmares. Thank you in advance. I don't have any prizes. This is not PR, it is RTFM.
That is, as promised, lesson numero uno about writing better docs: Know your audience and ask them questions. Disprove all of your assumptions.
If you are a sysadmin with 10+ servers, plenty of leisure time at work, and a penchant for upgrading production machines on a whim, please do let me know.
Ok, now for tunes: In the Civic: The Rentals, The Specials, The Kills... The Prepositions! Oh! A bit of writer humor. In the Walkman: Ritual De Lo Habitual The Tele: New Fender Frontman amp really sounds so nice, has anyone been to the new Guitar Center showroom in SF?? I still need to go by there, dangit. Tomorrow--need new cord... Concert Roundup: Helmut was all I could have asked for and more permanent hearing loss. Ladies, except for the other five who were there, you missed it. Concert Windup: the Faint tomorrow night, then Lisa Loeb (I have tourists in town, what can I say?)
