Reason is Merely A Part of Life
In one of Lawrence Lessig's recent weblogs, I ran into Reason.com (a very catchy name, you must admit).
Through a couple of searches on Reason.com, I then ran into a provocative interview with a Lebanese MP (which I still have to read) and a very interesting little essay from Iraj Isaac Rahmim, a friend of mine from my UC San Diego days. We took some classes together in the 1981-83 and were project partners on a plant design course. For a while, our paths crossed again at UC Davis, and then again when I visited University of Columbia in 1986.
Iraj's essay conveys a wonderful personal touch, a tale of life from his particular perspective growing up in Iran and later coming of age in the U.S..
Reading it should make it clear that in reality of real life, reason is often a faint part of it, and the best of reason in life is the openness given to others, and let's hope Reason.com is aspiring to do exactly that, i.e. remain open to all ideas, including the ones that are not officially sanctioned whether by the government or the political movements of various shades and colors.
