[ Telecommunications ] Wirless Broadband Planning

"Wireless Broadband Planning" is actually the name of a joint venture focused on obtaining WiMax licenses in Japan.

Essentially, WiMax extends WiFi technology over longer distances and larger throughputs. For a summary introduction to the technology, see here. WiMax Forum, the relevant standardization body, has grown in the number of participants as the base technology emerges and participants start thinking about actual applications. (For example, this August, Vodafone joined the forum.)

WiMax, a high-speed wireless internet access standard, allows users with laptops or other media devices to download content at distances of up to 50 kilometres. It is a long-range version of WiFi, the present standard.

Wireless Broadband Planning will bid for the 2.5 gigahertz frequency band and, if successful, will launch a mobile wireless broadband business. The new company said it intended to become a global leader in WiMax and would offer services globally through roaming agreements. WiMAX provides fixed , nomadic, portable and, soon, mobile wireless broadband connectivity without the need for direct line-of-sight with a base station. In a typical cell radius deployment of three to ten
km. Mobile network deployments are expected to provide up to 15 Mbps of capacity within a typical cell radius deployment of up to three kilometers
" What the rf physics really is " Notes. 1.01 2.5 GHz is line of sight. 1.02 50 km is not the goal. 1.03 laptops will not have the reciprocity antenna capability of responding over 3 km. 1.04 without the need of line of sight. well it is definately necessary ! 1.05 15Mbs is 10 concurrent users at T1. 1.06 The investment is Ten million, ( just good intentions ) 1.07 Vodaphone gets more PR value out of joining than an adventizement. 1.08 the wireless last mile will just create garbage data and rf polution after the first max number of users, regardless of cells at 2.5 GHz. Not very encouraging words from me. The wired City needs Glass to major population denseties. Broad band Coaxial cable entrances and 18 gague copper 2 pair. Pay for the build and do it right the first time. A five year delay and a further ten years of cliping of cupons. Japan will wire the Island as will the Uk. Respectfully GerwingR rtg
