I just finished reading "The Shack" written by W.P Young. All I can say is W*O*W. Better yet, Double-Triple W*O*W....
I have to admit I picked up this book a number of times before I bought it. In spite of it being a best seller the back cover turned me off. It's a story about a man who lost his young daughter tragically to a serial killer. Right there that was enough to make me put the book down. I really don't like to read stuff like that.
Well, after picking it up once again at the airport last week the gal at the book store said to me "that's a really good book". Given I was short on time I went with it. Sold.
I am so glad I did. W*O*W. It is an incredibly creative story about love, forgiveness, acceptance and our relationship with God. It amazingly addresses why God doesn't jump in and fix all the suffering in the world. I won't go into any more detail about the plot here, but trust me on this, walk, no run, to your nearest bookstore and get this amazing work. It's really transforming. I really can't say enough. W*O*W.
So, please, please, please wonderful blog readers, give it a try. I'd love to know what you think.
Okay, I'm sold. I'll order it on Amazon and have it delivered to my Mom and Dad's house while I'm home for Christmas. Another book that might be along similar lines is "The Lovely Bones". It's a story about a girl who is raped and killed when she's about 9 and she follows her family's life from heaven after she dies. It's incredible. I loved it.

I was set not to like the book, The Shack but after reading it, I thought it was really good and thought provoking. All the time I read it, I kept thinking it needs a study to go along with it. I finally decided God was urging me to write a study which I did. If anyone would like it, email me at prayerdigm.bookstudy@yahoo.com. I would be glad to send you the study. You are welcome to use it and copy it for others.

You are SO right about The Shack. A very good friend of mine at work (who is a lay pastor as well as an owner and president of a company that supplies to GM) suggested (in front of one of my employees) that I read the book. The employee picked up on the suggestion and bought it for me for my birthday (how cool is that, huh?). You are so right about the book. The characters of the trinity were my favorite. I struggled with the death of his daughter too, but the entire book and everything it "says" was so worth it. I haven't been touched by a book like that since I read (and reread, and reread) The Purpose Driven Life!!!
Love you Barb!!! I hope to read your blog more often. Take care!

Finished "The Shack" today and I must say it is one of the best books I have read.
I do not tend to enjoy or like "Religious" books, this is the exception. It is not religious in the "traditional" sense of the word. I do recommend it. I will be reading it again.
