Last night I participated in my first Stoke and Stride event of the season. This is a great training event out at the Boulder Reservoir consisting of either a 1500m or 750m swim (the stroke part) and a 5k run (the stride piece).
There were about 300 participants...all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities. People like me can actually go out and race in the same wave as world class triathletes who come from all over the globe to train in the beauty (and elevation) of Boulder Colorado. Let's be clear, I'm not actually racing the uber-athletes, we're just getting in the water at the same time.
I had a very fun race. My swim time was respectable (for me), especially since I haven't been in the water all that much since the accessories were installed. I didn't get the go ahead to splash around in the water until mid-May. But I guess all that non-swim time helped my run. Another personal best for me last night. My pace was an 8.53/mile. I'm really shaking my head about all this improvement, thrilled, but definitely baffled.
Saturday is my first tri of the season. I signed up just this week and we'll have to see how that goes. I'm psyched! Who doesn't like to leave their house at 5 am for an hour drive to South East Denver to get in a the 60 degree body of water, followed by a bike ride and run?
Certifiably nuts, that might be me!
you are AWESOME. you challenge me to get into mega shape so I can do these things too!!! I can't imagine doing a Stroke and Stride, but what a catchy name - sounds so fun!

Right on Mountain Girl,
Last night was my first stroke and stride too, and it was a blast. See you there next time.
