I had my post-op visit with Dr. McIronman (aka Dr. Hartley) today and he gave me the thumbs up to start working my endorphines again, pending I avoid high impact sports, ala running. The good news is I can ski the cruiser runs....bad news is I'm gonna be stuck on some machine in a gym, my least favorite form of working out. But at least I'll be moving my body and sweating.
I wonder how long it will take me to get back up to 10 miles running again after a month long hiatus? Oh well, easy come (hahaha), easy go.
Ya know, as odd as it may sound, I found that training for the Pikes Peak Ascent is not nearly as hard on my system as running. Who knew that I could get my heart rate up so high by simply _walking_ up a hill.
The only problem with the training sessions on barr trail is finding a way to avoid going 'down' after going 'up' for an few hours :-)

Hey Barb,
Great news! And thanks for the comment on my progress.
If your gym has a Step Mill, those are actually kind of fun. 1) because it's a killer workout and 2) you can watch everything going on in the gym. If you're not big into people watching, I guess #2 isn't a huge benefit. I find it amusing though.

Barb - question. where did you have your treatments/surgery done? I know you have Dr. McIronman in CO - but he's your plastic surgeon, yes? Where was your treatment done?
My father works for Midwestern Regional Medical Center, which is a part of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. And he seemed to remember driving a woman (he's a limo driver for the hospital) who worked remotely for a big company, lived in the mountains of Colorado, and had breast cancer. Now, I thought - that would be WAY too much of a coincidence. But I thought I would check! Wouldn't that be crazy...
