NetBeans 6.0 Adds Ruby Support and More
Excitement is building for the 2007 JavaOne Conference--now less than a month away. One of the hottest topics at the show is sure to be NetBeans 6.0, the latest and greatest version of the venerable IDE.
Momentum around NetBeans is so strong that Sun hosts a separate NetBeans Day the day before JavaOne. NetBeans Day is part of the inaugural CommunityOne event.
This week on SDNtv, Sun’s Tim Boudreau and Tor Norbye discuss what’s new in NetBeans 6.0, including a revamped editor that’s faster than ever and includes semantic highlighting. A new integrated profiler targets specific code, saving time and generally making a developer’s job easier.
Other new features include Ruby scripting support (including code completion) and data bindings. Be sure to check out an in-depth demo of data bindings functionality in this week’s episode.
So how can you join the NetBeans action? Download the latest build here, or register for the free NetBeans Day. And check out the NetBeans Wiki and Planet NetBeans, a collection of NetBeans-related blogs.
Also on this week’s episode, the Geek Gadget Guru rolls out the Solar Car Kit from Tamiya.
Next week SDNtv dives into the NetBeans Mobility Pack, cool tools for designing mobile applications.
