At JavaOne a few weeks ago, I almost forgot I was at a developer conference. With all the videos and games and flashy content lighting up the floor, it could have been CES in Las Vegas.
In this week’s episode of SDNtv, Kuldip Oberoi visits the JavaOne Mobility Village and meets two of the production companies working on the cutting edge of mobile and embedded Java application development. If you’re a developer looking for a new challenge be sure to watch these interesting interviews.
First up is Joe Rice, Senior Technical Director at MX Production. He explains why his company is focusing on the Blu-ray platform, and what that means for developers.
Did you know the Blu-ray platform has a full-featured Java development environment? It’s called BD-J, and it’s a quantum leap ahead of the tools for DVDs. BD-J enables an amazing new level of interactivity for the viewer, including in-movie experiences, games, and even networking. Pretty cool stuff. If you’re looking for a good place to get started with BD-J, check out the HD Cookbook.
Kuldip also interviews Derek Lyon of mSpot, a company that delivers streaming entertainment in the mobile space. Lyon says that his company develops almost exclusively in Java ME. Find out why Java ME is an ideal platform for streaming and is well integrated with carrier ecosystems.
Our next episode explores GlassFish, another ripe market for developers. Be sure to tune in.
