Back again this week is Chet Haase, one of the leading voices in Java desktop technologies. Joining Chet for this Special Edition of SDN Channel is, Ed Ort, our host from the Java.sun.com team. Ed has some great questions lined up that I'm sure will spark your interest.
This week we are going to dive deep and learn about how you can use the power of Java 2D and Swing to create exceptionally cool graphical and animated effects. We're not just talking about whizzy interfaces that look cool, but interfaces that provide interactive, real-time, functionality and performance.
Chet's been working hard over the last year to create libraries and demo code to help lower the barrier for developers. Hear about the work he's done with animations and graphics in the Java platform. To learn more about Chet's work, be sure to check out the Timing Framework Project where you can find articles, source code, and demos for this powerful animation utility library. Wow! He has been busy.
If you are interested in learning how you can create some of the animation effects mentioned in the show, be sure to check out the Show Notes below - Chet has created some new and very cool screencasts. Please note that low bandwidth users might experience occasional pauses during the playback. (We're hoping to get that fixed soon:-)
For those of you that just can't get enough, check out: Filthy Rich Clients: Developing Animated and Graphical Effects for Desktop Applications by Sun's very own Chet Haase and Romain Guy. They developed over 80 demos for the book, including the ones available in the screencasts below, and are making them available on the book's website.
And finally, check out java.sun.com. It's the premier "how-to" location for Java Developers. Full of technical articles, tutorial, tech tips. They even have an Ask the Expert section where you can send in questions online and get answers on the topic.
Next week, find out what's going on in the world of Linux as we hear from Barton George, Sun's Linux Strategist and Community Manager.
