It’s not an earthquake, but things are really shaking this week in San Francisco. The inaugural CommunityOne event kicks off on May 7, one day before the 2007 JavaOne Conference gets rolling.
At CommunityOne, it’s all about being open. This free, one-day conference explores open platforms, open technologies, and open business models. Thousands of developers are already registered, and attendees can pick from eight all-day tracks:
» NetBeans Day
» Glassfish
» OpenJDK/Mobile & Embedded
» OpenSolaris
» Web 2.0
» Startup Camp
» RedMonk
» Linux vs. Solaris?
Sure, it’s a tough call to choose between these great sessions, but you can’t really go wrong. All of the tracks are informative, exciting, and moderated by some of the biggest names in the developer community.
Now part of CommunityOne, this year’s NetBeans Day is a special one, thanks to the upcoming release of NetBeans 6.0. If you’re a NetBeans pro, don’t miss a chance to network with other developers and experts.
As a bonus, the first 400 attendees receive a free copy of Rich Client Programming: Plugging into the NetBeans Platform by Tim Boudreau, Jaroslav Tulach, and Geertjan Wielenga. Boudreau (read his blog) was part of the team that open sourced NetBeans, and he continues to work as a developer on the project.
A recently added track aims to shift the conversation from "Linux vs. Solaris?" to "open vs. closed." Sun’s new chief OS platform strategist Ian Murdock (read his blog) kicks off the session by asking "What’s a Linux Guy Doing at Sun?"
James Governor and Stephen O'Grady lead a RedMonk Unconference, where any subject is fair game. Propose and lead a session, be an active participant, or contribute what you'd like to see covered at the Unconference wiki.
Remember, CommunityOne is on May 7. The event is free, but space is limited so register today.
Next week, drop by the SDN Channel to learn about SDN Share, a new pilot program for the Sun developer community.
