For most IT departments today, security tops the list of concerns. Learn how Solaris, thanks to Trusted Extensions, provides a set of security features and policies that no other mainstream OS can match.
Trusted Extensions is a reimplementation of Trusted Solaris, which government and military organizations have used for more than a decade to provide extremely high levels of security. But with more and more companies--such as financial and health care organizations--requiring that degree of security, Sun decided to bake the capabilities of Trusted Solaris into Solaris 10.
"Trusted Extensions protects information--and restricts its flow between processes, data, and objects--based on the information’s sensitivity," explains Glen Faden, Sun distinguished engineer, on this week’s episode.
Trusted Extensions offers role-based access control, process-rights management, and much more. For instance, you can isolate Web-facing traffic from internal traffic. What’s more, the process-rights management capability works in conjunction with Solaris Containers to let you securely host thousands of applications and multiple customers on the same system.
Learn about Trusted Extensions "Secure By Default" installation option that completely secures a system from Internet threats. It’s a huge time-saver.
For more information about Trusted Extensions, visit the OpenSolaris security community or check out the Developers Guide.
Also on this week’s episode, witness the launch of the Estes Hydrogen Fuel Rocket, which uses electrolysis to extract hydrogen fuel from water. How high will the rocket soar? Tune in to find out.
And next week, March roars in with the first episode of a month-long look at Sun’s complete open source strategy. Until then…
