I got certified for SCJP 1.5 last year. Is there any chances and or benefits for getting certified for 1.6?

Although Sun Certifications are based on a version of technology, Sun does not require you to be certified at the most recent version of technology in order for you to retain your status as a Sun certified professional.
Nevertheless, Sun does recommend that those certified on a previous version of SCJP update their credential by taking the upgrade exam. The reason is simply so that you can continue to demonstrate your dedication, skill set, and desire to remain current with the latest in Java programming.
The following is a link to the SCJP 6 upgrade exam.
