JSR 235 Service Data Objects 2.1.1 EDR
This JSR defines core infrastructure APIs for heterogeneous data access that supports common application design patterns and higher-level tools and frameworks.

JSR 303 Bean Validation 1.0 EDR
This JSR will define a metadata model and API for JavaBean validation based on annotations, with overrides and extended metadata through the use of XML validation descriptors.

Book Review: Core Java: Volume I, Fundamentals (8th ed.)

With its many code samples and short explanations, this book by Cay Horstmann and Gary Cornell is both an excellent resource for learning and a great reference tool. Read Dana Nourie's review of the eighth edition.
