In Europe and Asia, IHE (Integrating the Health Enterprise) has become an important test set for interoperability and work flow profile. We see more and more demand for IHE compliant products in the U.S. also. IHE does not define technical standards, it provides test profiles and XML document standards that allow exchange of information between different applications. Work flow profiles define which types of information systems have to be connected and exchange information to support clinical processes. IHE profiles therefore are structured around clinical domains, such as Radiology or Cardiology.
With the help of Heiko Lemke, a senior sales engineer for SOA and business integration in our German team, we registered for the latest European Connectathon, which took place in Oxford, UK in April. Heiko just pointed out that the results are posted.
Using the components of the JCAPS / open ESB suite, Sun is now certified for several important inter operable profiles in the context of master patient indexing:
PIX - Patient Identity Cross-reference Manager (HL7v2 based)
PDQ - Patient Demographics Supplier
-- Patient Demographics Query (HL7v2 based)
-- Patient Demographics Query HL7v3
Consistent Time - Time Client

Thanks to all the engineers who burnt the midnight oil to make this connectathlon happen!
Sun is committed to open source and open standards, and ensuring that our products provide interoperability is therefore a logical and important part of our strategy in health care.
