Did you catch Microsoft's announcement today?  If you live in a world where things like VDI, WTS, RDP mean something to you, then you'll be excited to know that as of today anyone can view the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol specification.  Why is this news?  Because up until today this involved lawyers, contracts, large sums of money and view only access via a remote connection that even disabled your clipboard.  That's why.

Does this mean that maybe, just maybe.... audio/video sync will no longer be a running annoyance of the Sun Ray users?

Hi John,
The two have nothing to do with each other. Sun has been an official RDP licensee for a couple of years. RDP does not have a way to break apart the audio/video stream. But watch for some cool features coming in the next release. Feel free to contact your rep for a sneak peak under NDA.

I'm looking forward to any cool features coming. Any idea when the next release will be?

I know that the two have nothing to do with each other, at least in theory. But it seems that the MS client has a lot lower lag than the sun one, thus i'm wondering if they know something that the folks at sun didnt know because it was harder to really study the specs. Also, one of the thin client blogs (cant remember which) responded to my query with a statement that said to watch for an announcement on their blog the following week. That was 6 weeks ago.

Anyway, after meeting with one of Sun's AVP's today, I'm putting the sun ray and SGD stuff back at the top of my 'how can sun help us' list. The tech is just too good from a cost and administration standpoint to ignore. I expect the demo will follow shortly (esp now that win TS 2008 is almost out and things like usb redirection can become a reality)

There's only one hop between a PC and the WTS, that helps a bit...but there is still lag. There won't be any lag in the new stuff and yes it will support 2K8 as well. :)

Feel free to email me if you have any questions that I can help with. The roadmap is very exciting, but unfortunately something I can't share on my blog.

Just had a chat with our Sun Rep. He didn't know that much about the Sun Ray roadmap.

Would like to ask you about some RDP performance issues we're having with a customer. Didn't catch your e-mail address anywhere?

Thanks!
