Thin vs Thick Client Debate
I was invited to be on the panel of the first ever "Intel Great Debates". The debate I participated in surrounded Thin vs. "Managed" Thick clients. Enjoy.

You are viewing the entry Thin vs Thick Client Debate
Interesting debate.
You said something about video decoding on the sunrays. I've heard rumors about it before.
Is there something concrete on the way?

One thing I missed in this debate is the life-cycle of the client; thin clients can continue to function for years after the servers have been upgraded while the average fat client will be replaced after three to four years. I assume the environmental savings of not having to dispose the fat clients are significant, not to mention the fact that you don't need to buy new ones ;-)
The other thing I'm wondering about is: does the fat-client OS/App streaming model work for people that work-from-home (assuming they don't have Gbit downlink
connections) . What about the other managebility solution to securely wake up clients and patch them from a central location? Does that work outside the boundaries of a corporate network? Or do you still have a "bring your computer to work" solution there?
