I've finally taken the plunge - I have entered IronMan Switzerland on 12th July 2009.
For anyone that doesn't know what this is, it's a triathlon, a long triathlon - 2.4 miles swim + 112 miles bike + 26.2 miles run (marathon), and yes, all on the same day one after the other. I've been postponing this for years with the excuse of children not giving me enough time to train, but now they are a little older, I should have no excuse as long as I can stay uninjured. Training proper starts around xmas following the 30 week training plan from the book "Iron Fit" by Don Fink
I've done two half-IronMan races in the past, but it's still a big step into the unknown.
As an objective before the IronMan I am training for the Frankfurt Marathon in October 2008 using 3+2 training routines from FIRST - I like the idea of this kind of training, there are 3 quality runs a week and a minimum of 2 x-training, perfect for those not wanting to run more often and risk injury. The plan is to run the marathon in 3:15, but as I've never done one before, I'd be happy with around 3:30.
