My Blogs on WWERC WWERC 2008

During the wwerc 2008, I had the pleasure of participating in a panel,
whose aim was to show the community from various perspectives. This panel was comformed by Roger Mieke, director of Sun Labs (viewed from an
investigator of a corporation), James Hoe (professor at Carnegie Mellon
University, working with opensparc technologies, and offers insight view
into a teacher), Nili Naveh (belongs to Ministry of Education in
Israel, and offers a look from a government agency), and finally the panel needed a point of view from a student. And like all outstanding students were
busy, They chose ME!

Academic Panel

The discussion revolved around 3 key questions:

How each sector uses the community, either as how each sector comes to the community?

Is it a good thing that corporations begin to be internalized and activists in the communities?

What do you get and what you give from a community ?

I wish that we could all share our views on these questions, and I give you access to video of the entire panel

In this video I could record, Joe Hartley's introduction to everyone in the wwerc 2008, of the sun campus ambassadors

Despite the fact I was introduced as a Venezuela's boy(In fact I'm from Argentina, but Joe himself apologized for the mistake, so no problem at all!!!)it was an honor of being part of wwerc 2008, and mentioned by Joe Hartley in the first general session, and in the name of all campus ambassadors, I would like to thank Joe and his team for all the support to the campus ambassadors plan

One thing which came out very clearly during the panel discussion held during the Worldwide Education and Research Conference 2008 is that the learning methodologies and principals are changing everywhere in the world. Education is getting more and more into collaborative learning and sharing of knowledge and resources. So to sum it up, I did a quick interview of Joe Hartley (for those who don't know,  he is the Vice President -Government, Education and Healthcare for Sun Microsystems). Even though being hard pressed with his busy schedule took out time for two quick questions at the end of the day. Thanks to my fellow ambassador Sergay, we recorded the interview. And here is what he would advice to the students and teachers of today who would have to take up the burden of transition from the classic style "leacture based, half duplex learning" to "full duplex, community based collaborative learning." Another really amazing project is named
“Search inside the music” and what it actually allows is… literally
searching inside the music!

The amount of music that is released is just of tremendous size.
That obviously presents a practical problem of categorizing and tagging
all the content. For a person it is not easy to arrange all his or her
music collection in such a way that would allow contextual and
meaningful navigation between the tracks.

‘Search inside the music’ does exactly this - it arranges the
collection by the pattern which is calculated from frequency
characteristics of a track. The practical part of the system allows
people to find similar tracks that they enjoy and also extends the
functionality further by integrating with social networking.

The demo which has been presented at the solutions pavilion
demonstrated an exciting 3D application which makes it possible to
browse one’s music collection in 3 dimensions and see how do songs
relate to each other in terms of similarity.

Sun is planning to open-source and release the product once it
reaches a more stable version. Hopefully users might get intelligent
track management in their favorite players and social networks!

What a mix! Here at the reception of WWERC 2008 which officially marked the beginning of the conference we saw lots of cool technology!! We had Solutions Fair organized in the Ballroom and there we got a chance to lay our eyes on some of the very interesting technologies which Sun has to offer! But there were some of the technologies, which really went on the steal the show..!! And they should not be hard to guess...! We had some of the Sun Lab's infants being talk of the town.. Sun SPOT, the Music Search Application and the Project Wonderland with MiRTLE ended up hogging lots of limelight :) Everyone was very interested in getting a feel of project wonderland!

We managed to take lots of pictures and we would try to put it up as soon as possible.. So.. come back some time soon to catch up more on WWERC 08!

With everything gearing up at the Hotel St. Westin Francis, San Francisco, which is hosting the Worldwide Education and Research Conference 2008. Amidst all the action, I along with my fellow Campus Ambassadors Ezequiel Singer from Argentina, Gerg Corbin from USA, Sergey from Sweden and Vincent Ding from China caught up with Kevin Roebuck who is the community manager at Sun and is right now all set to change the way we look at Virtual Reality with project wonderland. Watch the video!

Stay tuned for more on WWERC 08!

So many things are happening at the Hotel St. Westin Francis, Union Square, San Francisco!! I'm sure you know the reason... No points for guessing, the Worldwide Education and Research Conference 2008 (WWERC 2008) has just begun!!

I was wondering what is going to be the best way to keep everyone informed on what is the happening at the venue... so I came up with this thing which I would like to call a "Status Check!" Every status check is going to let you know about whats happening in here and for those who are not here, what you are missing out (:-P just kiddin)!!

There is going to be so much to write about at WWERC08!! With so many speakers and every speaker being an Icon in his or her area, capturing all of their ideas and blogging about it is going to be so much fun and exciting! Along with me I have four other friends who are the Sun Campus Ambassadors from various countries, and their respective blogs are also the spots you would wish to keep looking at as they post their perception of the learnings at WWERC, filtered with the their culture and prevailing practices!

The links to their blog will be soon published on my blog too.. Links to other important resources on WWERC will also be put up on my blog pretty soon. I will try my best to keep updating every stuff concerning WWERC as soon as possible and make sure that you don't miss out on anything!! So keep checking and come back soon for more on the WORLDWIDE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2008!!

Wondering why a separate weblog for WWERC 08, when I already have updates from WWERC being posted on my main weblog. The thing is, there are so many things happening at WWERC 2008 that it indeed needs a separate blog. With just less than 24 hours left, everyone who is a part of it is getting excited!! Don't miss out on the excitement and in case you could not get lucky enough to have the chance of physically attend WWERC, don't miss the live webcasts and recorded video casts available on http://www.ustream.tv/sun!! Have a great time at SF!
