Tuesday August 21, 2007 I have recently described
how to setup a split PCI configuration with LDoms on a Sun Fire T2000. But I have just
discovered (thanks to my co-worker Jochen Behrens) that the device layout is different on the different version of the Sun Fire T2000:
- On the older version of the Sun Fire T2000, the internal disks and DVD-ROM are connected
to a disk controller card in one of the PCI-X slots, so they are on bus pci@7c0 (bus_b). This is
the configuration I have previously described.
- On the newer versions of the Sun Fire T2000, we now have an on-board disk controller which is
on bus pci@780 (bus_a). The internal disks are connected to that on-board controller so they are
now on bus pci pci@780 (bus_a), but the DVD-ROM is still on bus pci@7c0 (bus_b). So for these
versions of the Sun Fire T2000, we have this layout:
- Devices connected to pci@780 (bus_a)
- Internal hard disk drive 0
- Internal hard disk drive 1
- Internal hard disk drive 2
- Internal hard disk drive 3
- Device in PCI-E slot 0
- On-board network interface 0
- On-board network interface 1
- Devices connected to pci@7c0 (bus_b)
- Internal DVD-ROM drive
- Device in PCI-E slot 1
- Device in PCI-E slot 2
- Device in PCI-X slot 0
- Device in PCI-X slot 1
- On-board network interface 2
- On-board network interface 3
So if you want to setup a split PCI configuration on this newer Sun Fire T2000 you have to add either a Fiber Channel or a SCSI host adapter in one of the PCI-E or PCI-X slots on bus pci@7c0 (bus_b) like this:
