New Sun Ray Demo kit

Thursday Aug 09, 2007

As I mentioned in my previous blog about my Sun Ray Demo Kit customers just have to see the Sun Rays work in order to move the sales process forward. I decided I was done lugging my full size suit case with me to run the demo's.

I recently got a new MacBook Pro and with the release of VMWare Fusion, decided I could seriously reduce the amount of gear that I needed to run the demo.

So without further ado, my new Sun Ray demo kit. I created a Fusion VM running Solaris Neveda 69. I also created a VM running Windows XP. In the Neveda VM, I am running Sun Ray Server Software 4.0 RC47. I have the Sun Ray Server configured to serve up windows through Kiosk mode if a card is not inserted and, to serve the gnome desktop if a card is inserted.

I also currently have a sales unit on loan from Naturetech. Naturetech is a Sun OEM, and they are making several new unique Sun Ray products. The unit I have is a Jasper 320.

Once I got things up and running, the system was just too slow. I just did not have enough RAM. I quick trip to the local authorized mac dealer, and my MacBook now has 3GB. This upgrade turned out to be the key. The set up works like a charm! I am now ready for the 2 demo's I have next week, and I already know my back is going to thank me for the smaller demo kit.
