VMWare Fusion Beta 4

Saturday Jun 16, 2007

VMWare release beta 4 of Fusion a few days ago. Finally got some cycles to check it out.  Interestingly enough the install has seemed to pick up my beta 3 serial. Good news.  The install went flawless, as most mac apps do.

As I begin to start up my first vm, I realized I left them in a suspended state. Probably not the best thing for an upgrade, but what to to do now? The first vm has come up with out any issues. It is windows. It is running just fine no issues. Screen resizing is working just fine. It has detected that there are new vmware tools, and has asked me to install them.  A quick reboot and things seem to be working.

This version has moved the interfaces, disk, network, hd etc off of the top bar to smaller buttons on the bottom. I have also noticed a new button called unity. Not sure what it does. Good time to RTFM? Not for me and I click on it. I am sitting here blown away by what it does.  When you click on Unity mode the vm goes away and you wind up with a list of apps that are installed on the VM. I randomly started one, Publisher, and took this snap shot.

In my mac bar I have a publisher icon and Publisher is running just like any other app would on my mac desk top. To exit unity mode you simple go back to the Fusion view menu and change to full screen or single window to get your vm back.

I have now booted my Neveda 64a machine. It is up and running.  It does not seem like it is working as well as before, and I think a tools upgrade is in order. The Unity tool is not available like Windows, again may need to upgrade the tools. The really interesting thing is that my networking issue has been solved.
