EMC Documentum Qualification under Solaris Zones
Saturday Nov 07, 2009
Virtualization is the buzz word these days and everybody wants to get the maximum bang for their buck. People want to maximize their hardware utilization by either OS virtualization or hardware virtualization. Solaris Containers is an OS Virtualization technology which partitions one OS space into multiple OS partitions (zones). Solaris containers provide complete, isolated and secure runtime environments for applications. This technology allows application components to be isolated from each other using flexible, software-defined boundaries, allowing multiple applications to operate on a single Solaris 10 OS instance while maintaining specified service levels. A Solaris Container is the combination of system resource controls and the boundary separation provided by Zones.
EMC Documentum deployed on Solaris is one such application that people want to run in Solaris Containers so that they can isolate multiple instances or applications in their own zones and better utilize their hardware and run applications effectively. EMC Documentum is a comprehensive enterprise content management platform for ordering the flow and delivery of unstructured business information across an extended enterprise. Based on extensible, open, scalable and secure architecture that meets the needs of global, distributed organizations, Documentum comprises a set of integrated products and services that work together in varying combination. From creation or capture, categorization and electronic storage through just-in-time delivery and archiving, the Documentum end-to-end content management solution solves a range of strategic business issues.
EMC Documentum Content Server installs and runs fine without any issues on a Solaris Container. For more detailed information on the test, refer to this Link.
